Do You Need An Internal Communications Newsletter?

For some small organizations, a newsletter can seem unnecessary, or a bit like overkill. For others, it can be a great way to keep everyone on the same page.

If you have a small team, you might not think that a newsletter is necessary for your business. After all, if there aren't that many of you, then it's more likely that everyone is in the loop. But with remote work here to stay, a newsletter could be a good way to keep everyone engaged and on the same page. Here are a few ideas you can ask yourself to see if a newsletter would be right for your team, and a few ideas for content.

  1. How many emails are you sending to your team every week?

  2. How many of those are informational, where you're sharing some important info with them?

  3. How are you currently keeping everyone in the loop about upcoming promotions and business standing?

An internal communications newsletter doesn't have to be fancy. It could just be a well put together email made with whatever platform you already use for your team, like Gmail or Outlook. Or you could go to a third-party host like Revue and send it that way. Employees like to know where things stand. Transparency breeds engagement. And that’s a good thing.

If you've decided that a newsletter isn't really necessary for your team at this time, then great…keep working your magic. But if you feel like it might be beneficial, then read on for five content sections you might want to include.

  1. How the business is doing

  2. New clients/customers of importance

  3. Promotions and specials coming up

  4. New products and services coming up

  5. Something fun

Depending on your needs, you may decide to send an internal communications newsletter weekly, monthly, or quarterly. Give it a try and see how it works for your team!
